Prof. Higashi is a professor at Sophia University in Tokyo and a leading scholar on mediation and post-conflict peacebuilding in Japan.

Another interesting topic regarding peacebuilding is the relevance of child protection (SDG 16.2.) Austrian peace researcher Franz Jedlicka argues that countries can never become sustainably peaceful when already violence against children (corporal punishment) is still accepted (not prohibited by the law).
